Biography (1987)[]

Peter Johnston was born in Manchester and after completing his National Service he played in the original London production of Kismet at the Stoll Theatre (now the Royalty). HE appeared in the original London production of Camelot and in Hello, Dolly! with Mary Martin, both at Drury Lane, and next the Russian Soloist in the production of Fiddler on the Roof starring Topol at Her Majesty's Theatre - a role he also portrayed in the film. After five months in Rome playing a Muleteer in the film of Man of La Mancha, starring Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren. Peter returned again to London to appear in Applause; Pippin; Jesus Christ Superstar; Billy; Oh! Calcutta!; On the 20th Century; Evita; and Mutiny!.

Peter sang for three years with the Morley College Opera Group in roles such as Manrico in Il Trovatore; Fernando in Cosi Fan Tutti; Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore; and Goro in Madam Butterfly. Just before joining the Cats company, Peter has completed a series of the French & Saunders Show. He is an avid reader and has a good collection of biographies.
